More than 60% of the food American’s buy is highly processed. Processed foods are generally in the middle aisles of the grocery store – the ones with the packaging. Incorporate more fresh fruits and vegetables into your diet. Eating seasonally (and locally) is better for you and your wallet. The Virginia Department of Agriculture provides a handy chart (see below link) showing us what’s in season at any given time of year. Use this chart to start selecting produce that is in season and try to shop around at the local farms and farmers markets.
