Feng shui is the art of balancing and harmonizing the flow of energies in our surroundings to create beneficial effects in our lives. One of the main goals of feng shui is to create spaces that “feel”nurturing, peaceful and comfortable. Scientific studies by psychologists, biologists and even physicists have proven what feng shui has known all along….. Our surroundings have a deep and profound effect on our health and well-being. Below are 4 steps to help bring balance and harmony to your home.
1. The translation of feng shui is Wind-Water. If wind or water is blocked or restricted it becomes stale and stagnant. The same takes place in our homes when clutter prevents the Chi (energy) to flow naturally through our homes. Clearing the clutter is one of the most profound activities you can do to reduce stress and bring harmony to your home. And don’t forget to de-clutter those closets and drawers.
2. Good quality air and light have a direct effect on our physical and mental state. Add house plants to your home. One medium size house plant will help purify about 100 square feet of room space. Reduce chemical exposure by using organic, natural cleaning products and avoid chemical air fresheners. Open the windows to bring fresh air into your home. Create as much natural light as possible and use full spectrum bulbs when necessary.
3. Adding the appropriate Chinese elements of wood, water, fire, earth and metal to the 9 life aspiration areas of your home may bring improvement to certain aspects of your life. Bringing in the 5 elements will help balance and energize your home.
4. Incorporating images and materials from nature have proven to reduce stress, increase productivity, promote healing and provide a greater sense of well-being. Add pictures, plants and any other natural materials to your home to increase the feelings of comfort and relaxation.
